The house is located close to Hinchingbrooke House, Huntingdon, the home of Pepys cousin and patron, Edward Montagu, first Earl of Sandwich. It was built about in about 1600 and extended later in the 17th Century. Pepys inherited it, together with some land on the death of his uncle. He never stayed in the house for more than a few weeks at a time, and although he spoke of living there on retirement, the attractions of London proved too strong. On his death the house and land passed to his nephew John Jackson before being absorbed into the Sandwich Estate at some time in the 18th Century. It was sold in 2005 to an investment fund. The house is leased to The Pepys House Trust by the investment fund directors. The current tenants are Mr. & Mrs. Curtis. The house is open to visitors, strictly by appointment (two days notice is required). To book please telephone Mrs. Curtis on 01480 453431. If phoning from abroad the number is 00 44 14 80 45 34 31. The postal address, to locate the house on arrival in Brampton if visiting is: Pepys House, 44, Huntingdon Road, Brampton, Cambridgeshire, PE28 4PA The Pepys House Trust is a registered charity (No.262261). Donations for the upkeep of the house are always gratefully received by the Chairman of the Trustees, John Martin, who can be contacted on 01780 470298.
